Aside from Benghazi and Extortion 17, scandals that cast unbelievable disgrace to the Obama administration, those of the IRS and API directly affect every American.
Liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add ‘within the limits of the law,’ because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual – Thomas Jefferson, letter to Isaac Tifany, 1819
When Thomas Jefferson wrote these words almost two hundred years ago he understood human nature. Like his fellow patriots, Jefferson knew that power in the hands of some, say like Barack Obama, who views the US Constitution as an obstacle that hinders his agenda, will find ways to legally impose his will against the individual in order to control the collective.
In this quote, Jefferson asserts that the liberty of the individual is measured against the same rights accorded to others. Lately the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Associated Press (AP) scandals are waking people up to the fact that tyranny begins when the rights of a few are ignored. Persecution begins to flourish when the rights of some are indeed obstructed against the liberties of others. When this happens the right to self defense is not only a constitutional right, it becomes a moral imperative.
This principle is boldly declared through the Second Amendment, which grants every citizen the right to bear arms. However, in our time this right has to do with a police record and background check. Today under federal law, even non citizen Green-card holders, as well as immigrant aliens who do not yet have their green cards may own a firearm, but only if they also hold a valid hunting license or permit lawfully issued. Yet, many people are not aware of the distinction or the hunting license exception. Furthermore, a non-citizen cannot purchase a firearm from a federally licensed firearms dealer unless he has been in state as a for at least 90 days, so that leaves out tourists on short vacations. See link for more information. 18, USC Chapter 44, Section 922, part (y)(2). So in this country we do make an exception for legal non citizens with concern for the right, or perhaps the word courtesy is more appropriate here, to bear arms. Yet, some would argue that the word ‘courtesy’ is how the Obama administration would redefine the Second Amendment if they could. Such an action would separate us from the safety of “limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others” to the rights established “within the legal limits of the law”, a very dangerous difference.
Yet, this fundamental right to bear arms has been seriously attacked in recent months like never before in United States history. With the blessings of the Obama administration, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded such lucrative contacts to manufacturers of ammunition, primarily for “training” purposes, that supplies are sucked dry for the needs of both private citizens and local law enforcement. With the recent scandals of the Obama administration that includes the IRS and the Justice Department (again), some gun control advocates of the past are beginning to have second thoughts.
In the face of the outrageous IRS intimidation scandal now sweeping across America, gun control advocates are changing their tune. All of a sudden, the idea that the federal government could engage in tyranny against the People of America is no longer a “conspiracy theory.” It’s historical fact right in your face thanks to all the recent scandals now bursting onto the scene: IRS intimidation, secret targeting of non-profit groups for possible “thought crimes,” the Department of Justice seizing AP phone records and so on. Finally people like Piers Morgan are beginning to understand a basic American value that government cannot be trusted (like with your health records) and that it must be watched at all times, if it is to remain the servant of the people.
